Defining Privacy and Security

While often used interchangeably, privacy and security are fundamentally different concepts that serve distinct purposes.

Key Differences

  • Privacy is about control over personal information
  • Security is about protection from unauthorized access
  • Privacy is a right, security is a measure
  • Privacy is about what happens to data, security is about how data is protected

Security is essential for privacy, but privacy is not the same as security.
